Parks & Recreation Department Recreation Coordinator Permanent full-time
Recreation Coordinator position, $49,469 - $57,685 (40 Hours per week) includes benefits package. Successful completion of Civil Service Examination is required and applicants must meet all requirements set forth in the Employees Civil Service Ordinance. Pre-employment background investigation and substance abuse testing is required.
Under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director and/or Assistant Director, coordinates, supervises, plans, develops, implements and evaluates comprehensive community recreation programs and youth leagues. Provides supervisory responsibility for staff, volunteers and contractual employees. Also, performs related work as required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for coordinating, budgeting, marketing, evaluating, purchasing of equipment/supplies, plus hiring, supervising and training of seasonal staff, for recreation programs and special events. Individual(s) in this position develop: seasonal orientations, staff meetings and staff evaluations. Duties include planning, designing and coordinating the production of marketing tools such as, brochures and flyers, creating content for social media platforms, web site and local cable, prepare press releases and news articles, and design banners and signage for all programs. The position will require the pursuit of additional resources through partnership/sponsorship, fundraising or grant opportunities. The Recreation Coordinator will serve as a recreation resource for the department and community.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires knowledge of athletic leagues, special events, instructional/contractual programs and recreational services. Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports according to accepted standards, works effectively independently or as a member of a team, schedules workloads and prioritizes assignments, understands and follows complex oral and written instructions and effectively communicates orally and in writing. Also individual(s) must be able to work a flexible schedule: early mornings, evenings and weekends as programs designate.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
This position requires a Bachelors Degree in Recreation, supplemented by a successful fieldwork/internship with a municipal recreation department. Three years of municipal recreation experience or six years part-time. National Certification (CPRP) is preferred. Applicant(s) will possess the following certifications: National Certification (CPRP) within two years of hire, American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED within six months of hire and National Association of Youth Sports (NAYS) clinician within six months of hire. Successful completion of Civil Service Examination is required and applicant(s) must meet all requirements set forth in the Employees Civil Service Ordinance.
